Client Profile

Grimoire (Teresa Bussey) is a multidisciplinary artist in Vancouver, Canada specializing in elegant creations for the enchantingly peculiar. Inspired by theatre, folklore, and gothic culture, Teresa creates décor and ritual pieces that feel both striking and personal. Her work has a way of drawing you in, the kind of art that makes you lean closer, noticing all the little details woven into each creation.

Her art specializes in creating one of a kind collection of hand-painted tarot and rune bags, dream pillows, tarot mats, cinnamon brooms, witch bells, and replica skeleton keys. Teresa is also known for her hand-poured crow skulls, each one meticulously finished by hand, some even with a whimsical twist as jesters.

Teresa needed a logo for her business that was to match the feel of the products she creates.  She very much loves crows.  So wanted to involve them in the design. The logo needed to be a 1 colour vector graphic that could be used in print products such as business cards, signage, flyers. post cards and in product labels as well as on digital formats (ie: social media)

Creative Process

At first we were going with more based on brush work with font ideas or smoke since a grimoire is a magical tome. But then since many of the products are hand made sewing like pillows and elegant fabrics then adding the spool with the books I found to work really well with the raven and magical books.

From concept sketches I then drew a vector logo in illustrator.  The art is a silhouette of a raven holding a thread, sitting on books and then it blending into the text Grimoire. We chose a calligraphy style font for the thread to blend into it to look like a ribbon into the font.

Implementation

The logo has been used in business cards, social media and in the signage on the table she uses to display at art and trade shows.  The logo and and fonts are also used in the signage design lists that are for each product in the display table sections.

It is versatile and able to be used in many formats as it is single colour and can be put on many different backgrounds so if in future it is easy to make changes if wants on a different size sign or a blank product label or other uses. I very much enjoyed working on this and creating a unique brand identity for Teresa and Grimoire.
